Google is in talks with an American vision benefits provider to get Google Glass into the hands of the people who know eyes the best: doctors.
VSP Global, which insures eye care for millions of Americans and also makes eyeglass lenses and frames, has been talking to Google about how best to integrate Google Glass into prescription glasses and casual frames, according to The Wall Street Journal on Friday.
VSP's chief executive, Robert Lynch, said that the plans discussed have included training optometrists to fit Google Glass for patients, developing prescription lenses that accommodate the wearable computer's prism, and making more fashionable frames for Glass.
Google declined to comment, saying only that the company has noted publicly that it has been working to create prescription frames for Glass "for some time."
