Raspberry Pi carves out 2 million sales

The $35 credit-card-sized computer reached its latest milestone during the last week of October, surprising its makers

Raspberry Pi has been served a healthy slice of sales -- 2 million.
The small hobbyist computer registered its sales feat during the final week of October, the Raspberry Pi Foundation said in a blog post Sunday. Based on prior sales growth, the organization said it hadn't expected to reach the 2 million mark until January or February 2014, so the new sales figures came as "a bit of a shock."

Consumer demand for the credit-card-sized computer seems to be ramping up since the foundation announced 1.75 million sales in early October.
Selling for $35 a piece, Raspberry Pi is essentially a small motherboard equipped with a CPU and several different ports. The device is aimed at students and tech hobbyists who want to write software for it or incorporate it into their projects. Pi can also serve as a media-streaming platform and an arena for gameplay.
